This weekend's video has been selected by my daughter, Josie, who feels it is "the funniest video ever". It made me laugh, but let me know if you think otherwise or have any other suggestions for funniest video.
Gosh, that video really looks staged, but give the kid credit for coming up with a script that has gotten over 200,000 hits. The success of the video is unquestionably real and it obviously strikes some as very funny.
Judging from the first three comments this video has not struck a chord with Y.I.P. viewers. In defense of the selection, I'll point out that Channing seems unhurt and what seemed funny to me was both the unexpectedness of what happens and her expression as she reaches towards the camera at the end.
Sorry if anyone feels it's mean spirited or not funny.
No need to apologize--I actually find the video quite interesting. Go back and look at seconds 23-25 and you will see that the closet door is quite flexible, maybe some sort of laminated cardboard. Look at it with the same eye that you used on the Obama poster and you'll see that this was staged, but that's the really interesting thing about the video.
This young girl and maybe her parents have used 31 seconds of video to make her "famous". Yesterday there was a near riot of young girls and their parents at a mall appearance by Justin Bieber, a 15-year-old singer who combined YouTube, Twitter, and other elements of the internet to become a sensation. People are chasing after fame, either with a balloon boy hoax or a falling closet door, and everyone is just a viral video away from cashing in. It's really quite an amazing thing.
I laughed. I admit it. It was the total surprise of this little girl trying to stage her stuffed animal show and then the real show was the door falling down unexpectedly (judging from the look on her face). I think she ran to the video to cut it off because she needed a shoulder to cry on for a moment or two.
The fact that she posted it up on YouTube tells the viewer that she's okay, and she wanted us to see it.
Yep, it's funny, but not because she was sad. It's funny, just because. . . well, it just is. (Do we have to analyze everything?) Thanks for a Sunday morning laugh.
It shouldn't be surprising that some find this funny and others don't since humor is in the eyes of the beholder--for example, some find great humor in puns and others find most puns sophomoric.
What about the question of real or staged? Does that have any bearing on the humor? If you look at the full screen version of the video on YouTube, you see that the door is leaning against the wall outside of the closet, the girl taps on the door to signal when her friend inside the closet needs to push the door forward, and the clothes on the left are moving slightly. Maybe from wind created by the falling door or maybe they were brushed by the person in the closet.
So if it was a staged event and therefore the reaction of the little girl is all planned in advance, it is still funny? It is almost like asking if a staged photo and a real life shot are one in the same if they both look the same.
"If only all blogs were as life-affirming and tender-hearted as that of gallerist James Danziger. Whether his focus falls on the work of an individual artist or a particular theme, The Year in Pictures is compulsive reading."
James Danziger has been involved in photography for a long time.
This blog is a record of photographs (and a few other things) that have captured his attention.

I beg to differ. Just glad to see that the girl got up right after and seemed okay!

I love it. Especially her face when she reaches for the camera right at the end. Not the funniest video ever though.

Absolutely no reaction. I don't get why it would illicit 200,000 YouTube views.
I laughed too. It's funny, and she's not hurt so I don't feel bad about laughing.
