Thank you all for the terrific response to the Valentine's Day competition (submitting a photograph inspired by Harry Callahan's famous photograph of his wife Eleanor). I've picked my top 5 and will leave it to the readers to select the winner. Just post a comment with the name of who you think should get the prize. No Anonymous votes allowed!
Above - Alicia Ackerman. "These are self-portraits, so all that tender loving from Callahan is not present. I was curious about my freakishly long arms and the pretty dresses in my closet."

I love Daniel Schmeichler's. I just love the composition, and the positioning of the dog...perfect. her red top and the black lab-great contrast! The lighting on her skin is very nice. My vote is for Daniel.
My vote:
Kate Hutchinson!
yay.
Alicia Ackerman - She looks quite happy, but the hands seem to belong to another being, one that is about to rip off her head!

Gabriela Herman!

Gabriela Herman!
I vote for Kate Hutchinson.

Congratulations to all of them. Beautiful pictures all.
I'm voting for Daniel Schmeichler.
Daniel Schmeichler gets my vote.
Gabriela Herman , I mean look at how her picture creates this almost intimate relationship with her object. It's almost like you can hear her thoughts.

John von Pamer, THEY ARE ALL QUITE GOOD-NICE JOB
Daniel Schmeichler
GabrielHerman's image is amazing. Simple and clear. I cannot say however that it is the most "Valentine-esque", but as a image, thumps up.
I'd stay with Gabrile herman's image.
so peaceful.

Gabriela Herman!
Gabriela Herman, please! congrats, all!

It has to be Gabriela. She just seems to best respond to Callahan's original, and her technical quality is above the others.
hey there -
i don't think any of them has the relaxed ambience of the original photo, so i'll vote for Alicia Ackerman whose attitude put a big smile on my face (too).
this way of deciding is a great idea, btw.
Stunning group of photos, but I'd say Herman's stands out as well.
gab herman
Gabriela Herman for the win.
HM to Kate Hutchinson.
Alicia, I love the colors and the expressions, well made
Definitely Gabriela Herman's! It's so sensual.
They are all rather wonderful, aren't they?
Gabriela Herman's seems to capture the intimacy in the same way.
But there is something about Daniel Schmeichler's that looks equally intimate, even if she's a bit further away from the camera. But the light on her belly and a creeping suspicion that she is ill only serve to develop the connection and curiosity.
And Kate Hutchinson's is simply arresting and luminous.
I have a feeling that John von Pamer's would be incredible in person and that the computer monitor doesn't do it justice.
My vote is for the sensuous and intimate Gabriela's - but I would love a print of each!
Alicia Ackerman!
there is something wonderful about alicia ackerman's portraits...her great sense of humour is infectious! ... she had me at freakishly long arms and pretty dresses!!!
i also like gabriela herman's photograph.

Alicia.
Gabriela Herman!!
Gabriela Herman!
its a tough call but i go with gabriela:)

I think Daniel Schmeichler's really captures the essence of the original. It is a lovely shot and All are nicely done (I love the port and starboard taffy-face dresses).
Gabriela Herman
Daniel Schmeichler. Definitely.
Gabriela Herman woo hoo!
gabriella herman
Alicia Ackerman by a mile.
Gabriela Herman's image seems to best respond to Callahan's original
is it okay if I think Alicia Ackerman is muy hot?
how about if it's in a totally non-sexist, uncreepy observationally appreciative way?
