This Just In...

People have been talking about how surprising that in this day and age no-one captured the "Miracle on the Hudson" on a camera or cellphone. Well, they did. This just in by Roy Gates (via desertwind).

It's quite beautiful in a cubist/impressionist photo way. Takes a moment to even see what it is.

This is beautiful. And the photo below...the one from Reuters...is simple but spectacular, as it is so fitting. After all this city has been through, it can give you the goosebumps to see these survivors seemingly walking on water.

And, here's a video from the Coast Guard

It's remarkable to see some of the actions I've read about in the news coverage.

Around the 3:00 mark you see the first person out on the right wing slips into the water & is pulled out by the man behind her while the others in line wait. (the camera shows it & then moves away, but returns)

The poor gal said later that she'd forgot to take off her 3 inch heels! She'd been sitting next to the exit door.

incredible. I think this says something about the natural compositional instinct in all of us, photographer or not. In other news, I just heard on NPR about the train ride Obama took from Chicago to Washington- locals waving on back porches as it rolled by, etc. Does anyone know about any photographers onboard? Of course I immediately thought of Paul fusco...happy 44th president everyone!
