It is almost right in the middle of the falls between the Zimbabwe and Zambia sides (I went from the Zambia side), so the worst part is making your way along the top of the waterfalls.
It was spectacular though. Did some cliff jumping into the pool, it's pretty deep. You can see all the tiny tourists across the chasm.

I wouldn't recommend trying this now though. But photographically speaking, what is it about waterfalls that seem to hold our attention? I think it has to do with biblical references, edenic paradise and whatnot. I think there is a duality at play with waterfalls: on the one hand they represent the origins of life (water). On the other hand they represent death (the fall and drowning.) Also, you can add the force of God manifested in the natural world; all of these factors conspire to make waterfalls endlessly interesting as a photographic topic. If you want to see a great artist channel her creative energies into a communion with the all mighty check out Lynn Davis' show currently at the Edwyn Houk gallery in NYC. She is best known for her inspired photos of religious sites. There are some pictures of the Igazu Falls in Argentina that are sublime. Also, check out photographer Alec Soth's book called "Niagara." He did a great close up of Niagra falls that is loaded with meaning (love compared to a force of nature or marriage as drowning in misery?)....you decide. James, again, great blog. Glad I found it.
Raymond A.RAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08936697848965613677noreply@blogger.com
