I love it that these subjects have real lives and these real lives illuminate that 1/125th that Diane Arbus captured. Terrific post. Learning more about Arbus, her subjects and how they remember the experience is fascinating.

Similar to Mr Wade's response, my parents often reacted that way to certain photographs I have taken of my younger sister. There is one shot that I still love taken when she was 11 or 12. My parents and my sister hated it, said it didn't look like her and wasn't "appropriate". She was wearing lipstick and it was a black and white shot with very low light. I guess there's a sensuality to it. People who don't know her like the shot. People who do know her generally don't like it.

By the way, I love that Mr Wade has stashed away the original print of Identical Twins!Alice Olivehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09726631444593912661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5777454663138389757.post-91759403792345213312008-08-07T15:18:00.000-04:002008-08-07T15:18:00.000-04:00great post. p.s. the kid with the grenade always c...great post. p.s. the kid with the grenade always creeps me out.Jessie Cacciolahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17283174654217322373noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5777454663138389757.post-6564442556495331562008-08-07T12:07:00.000-04:002008-08-07T12:07:00.000-04:00Ironic you should post about twins today. One day when I was in line at an ice cream truck, I noticed a guy right ahead of us who was in one of my pictures. My 16-year-old daughter said, "Creepy." And she was right. But of the range of transgressions artists can commit, this seems pretty mild. So I figure I'll live with it. But I'm curious to hear more about your views.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5777454663138389757.post-37405200064462758072008-08-07T10:36:00.000-04:002008-08-07T10:36:00.000-04:00What a fantastic post!
